Is it common in Brazil for parents to spank their children?

I'm from Brazil and my parents spanked me and my brothers and sisters. My parents love for us was fierce and I believe that on the rare occasions that one of us would get spanked that it was typically deserved i.e back talking, not doing our chores, lying, and stuff like that. Just because your friend hasn't seen much of this, doesn't mean it's not still popular.
